About Me
Ada Perez Swenson~Artist & Designer
I have had a life-long interest in painting experimenting with all media; I love surrounding myself with rich layers and textured surfaces coming together in creating colorful paintings. In my works, different parts of my life and experience are revealed, each telling a different story.
Born in New York City as Ada Perez, to parents that were professional Spanish dancers, and a brother who was a sculptor. In that atmosphere, I was constantly surrounded by music and the arts.
Married young, living in many parts of Europe, I was fortunate in being able to study the Masters as I traveled.
I lived on a sailing vessel called 'Celebration' for ten years, sailing on the Caribbean Sea, I painted daily, often watching the sun rise and fall as I painted.
In the everglades, I spent one month living alone in one of the unique regions of the earth, painting the remote wilderness, the "River of Grass." The Everglades National Park sponsored a one-artist show of my work at the Park's Museum for a period of one month.
Perhaps I'm biased, but I think that being an artist is one of the most demanding professions that one can choose. The creative process is humbling as it opens us to the possibility of rejection. To be successful, I feel I must pour my heart and soul into my work. When I serve the work, however, it becomes my teacher. I shape the work, but at the same time, the work shapes me, as I have learned that truth is everything.
