Ada has lived in the Everglades National Park as Artist-in-Resident for one month, has lived on their sail boat for a period of ten years, and now travels with her husband Roy on their boat 'Swan Song'.
The Swenson's choose to see nature on it's own terms whether on water, or in national parks throughout the United States. Often encountering Florida landscapes of great beauty; such as sea oats which protect fragile coastal dunes in virtually undistured settings, Ada and Roy find scenic anchorage in wetlands along deep green forest of mangroves, tropical hardwoods and salt marshes. While campng in their 17 ft. Roadtrek, they watch eagles, hawks, waterfowl, wading birds and alligators and see impressive cypress swamp with a variety of epiphytic orchids. As they watch the kaleidoscope of fish, sea turtles, calling birds and native animals, Ada paints the scenes before her.
The loss of our pristine areas, has prompted the Swensons to direct their work towards eliciting increased public awareness regarding the dangers of over development. They wish to show the plight of the Florida panthers, Key deer and other wildlife throughout the United States in their struggle to survive an era of dminishing wilderness. In her paintings Swenson conveys an obvious love of nature which she wishes to share with people viewing her work.
